Time Fleets

Primary identification of an individual is with his physical body. He also considers wealth and beings as his possessions. He acts with vanity over his youth, accumulated wealth and retinue. However, these are susceptible to being lost in a jiffy. The wise one understands the fleeting nature of the world and treats it as illusory. This is the essence of verse 11 of Bhaja Govindam. The next verse highlights the insatiable nature of human desires. With the passage of time, only the body ages and dies, not the desires. The implied message of this verse emphasizes the urgency of exhausting one’s desires.
